Yoga for Runners and Athletes, Thursdays 6:00-7:15pm, Marion
Starting Thursday, September 16
This
dynamic 6-week workshop is designed for runners and athletes to improve
their flexibility and performance. The first few classes will teach the
different poses and their benefits. Exploring specific muscle group and
learning body awareness. Once you have become familiar with the
poses we will practice different sequences. Breathing exercises
(pranayama) and meditation will be introduced, which can give you the
extra mental edge to push you to the next level. Yoga is a great
cross-training tool. If you are into outdoor sports, the winter months
are a perfect time to work on realigning your body and working on
neglected muscles you don’t use as much in your regular training
schedule.
Marion
has been a competitive runner for most of her life, and knows the time
and effort runners put into their practice. She knows that most of the
injuries through running are overuse injuries. To prevent nagging
injuries that can be discouraging, practice of yoga is very helpful.
Yoga can realign the body and it is a great cross-training tool to stay
injury free.
It’s a 6-week workshop. The classes are held once a week and the cost is $110. Drop-in is $20 if space permits.

Yoga for Teens and Young Athletes, Tuesdays 4:45-5:45pm, Jessie
Starting Tuesday - September 14- call to register
Teens
are happy to discover that regular yoga practice builds stronger,
muscular body, calms the mind and balances out the mood swings due to
hormonal changes. Many teenagers and young athletes are active in
sports that develop certain muscle groups. However, they often overlook
flexibility of the spine, back, arms, and legs. Yoga stretching poses
are highly beneficial in correcting this imbalance to strengthen
muscles that are not used in sports training. The stretching may be
difficult at first, but with regular practice, the body becomes more
flexible and the poses easier. With stronger
body, teens build self confidence and self esteem. With relaxed and
calm mind Yoga helps teens to better understand complex life issues.
It’s a ten-week workshop. The classes are held once a week and the cost is $140. Drop in is $16 if space allows.

Early Morning Sadhana, Friday 4-6:30am – next Sadhana September 10
Please call to confirm your attendance (three students minimum to run this class)
Sadhana is a spiritual practice of
self-discipline that allows one to express the Infinite within one's
self. It consists of meditation on the sound of Japji Sahib, Yoga set
and a series of chanting meditation (meditation with mantras). It is
done early in the morning, before the sunrise, when the energies on
Mother Earth are in calm and balanced state and angle of the Sun to the
Earth is very good for meditation. Also there is more prana (life force
energy) during these hours, and the body rhythms are more set to
support physical cleansing than during the rest of the day.
Subconscious mind can be cleared of fears, and as each fear comes up
and we look upon it neutrally, the fear looses its power over us. We
become more flexible and we feel more free. This powerful practice
prepares you fully for the day.
"All
these changes that you are seeing in your personality did not happen
because you got counseled, or your teacher was great. You all changed
because you wanted to change and you did sadhana. Sadhana changed you.
The ultimate approach is when you want to change and you do sadhana." -
Yogi Bhajan

Yoga for Fertility, Monday 7:30pm - 9:00pm - Jessie
Anything Helps - Yoga for Fertility on City TV News! (click on the title to follow the link))
The next session starts Monday September 13 -- register early to avoid disappointment
If
you are planning to start a family or are experiencing a challenge in
fertility, Yoga can be a helpful tool on your journey. This
gentle Yoga practice provides asana (postures) to open the body to
pregnancy and meditation and breathing to sooth and calm the mind.
Benefits of Yoga for Fertility Yoga may:
- Reduce stress and relax the
nervous system encouraging a positive environment for conception.
The practice activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which
encourages a relaxation response in the body.
- Open
subtle energy channels. The second chakra is believed in the Yoga
tradition to be the energy centre associated with conception and
fertility.
- Deepen the awareness of your body. This gives a greater sense of control over your body.
- Balance
the body, mind and spirit. This balance improves body
alignment, mental balance, encourages a positive attitude and reduces
anxiety.
- Improve circulation.
Improved circulation is especially important for improving fertility
because the increased blood circulation ensures that sufficient oxygen
and nutrients reach the reproductive organs; improved blood circulation
also increases overall energy and stamina.
- Softens
the abdominal areas and removes tension from around the uterus,
fallopian tubes and ovaries. This provides an opportunity for
this area to be fully functional.
It’s a 10-week workshop in a small size class. The classes are held once a week and the cost is $250. No drop ins.
