Shiatsu Massage
$75 an hour, $95 1.5 hours

Shiatsu is a technique that follows the meridian stimulation principles of acupuncture but uses finger pressure instead of needles. Shiatsu is practised in the traditional Japanese style, being performed on a floor mat, which allows the practitioner
to use their body weight and core centre in the transfer of Qi. The client wears loose, comfortable clothing that permits the
manipulation of the body through various meridian stretches, where and when it is perceived to be of benefit. The focus of the treatment is determined both by the clients experience of their symptoms and by the organ system assessment that informs the practitioner of the underlying imbalances. Based on Chinese meridian theory the assessment is, as it is with acupuncture, the cornerstone of an effective treatment. In general, the effect of treatment differs from massage in that it is not a muscle manipulation treatment that directs the flow of blood to the internal organs for cleansing. Shiatsu is an energy-based therapy that gains its effect from moving the Qi or Chi blockages in the body.  As a result, the client experiences less of an unwinding of muscle tension and more of a clear and centred feeling.
